Malfurion Stormrage: Co-ruler of the Night Elves
Malfurion Stormrage is one of our dominant lore characters throughout Warcraft‘s history. He was actually the first mortal druid and the one who taught the Night elves druidism under Cenarius. Cenarius is a demigod. He is a hero to Azeroth.
During the Burning Legion’s first invasion of Azeroth, he guided the Night Elves to successfully halt their attempts. Malfurion is the greatest of the world’s archdruids. Him and his druids protected the Emerald Dream for 10,000 years to rebuild the world while Tyrande would protect Kalimdor.
His Love
Malfurion and Tyrande led the night elves in the Third War. They had defeated the Burning Legion once again. Malfurion and Tyrande got married after the Cataclysm. They grew up together as friends in Suramar, and he and his brother both wanted to be with Tyrande, we all know who ended up getting the girl in this case. Malfurion and his love now lead the night elves as one.
Dedication
Malfurion was a dedicated disciple of Cenarius. He learned druidism in his homeland of Val’sharah. Becoming the first mortal druid on Azeroth, he was also a respected scholar loyal to Queen Azshara. He admired her but was the first to notice the distance Azshara and her followers were keeping.
The Well of Eternity
Malfurion suspected the powers the Well of Eternity was granting was not pure, as they were believing. He knew the Kaldorei would change forever as a result. Tyrande and Malfurion sought out Cenarius in hopes of some reprieve for their people. Malfurion knew that his people could not win against the demonic invaders. He destroyed the Well of Eternity, believing it to be the gateway.
Sibling Rivalry
We all by now know that Illidan once had the name, Betrayer. But do you know why? He betrayed the Night Elves by going back and telling Azshara and her people that Malfurion was coming after them. He did not want to give up his power. After this happened, Malfurion in an attempt to protect his people and the world from his brother’s thirst for power, imprisoned Illidan in the Barrow Deeps, below Hyjal.
Sometimes doing the right thing will result in the hardest of choices. Malfurion became the first mortal druid on Azeroth, husband to Tyrande, and imprisoned his brother plus took down his own Queen. We are anxious to see what Shadowlands has in store for him, if anything at all.
