The Story of Lady Katrana Prestor: A Powerful Woman in Warcraft History

Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate Lady Katrana Prestor, a powerful figure in Warcraft history. While we often hear about the good and bad male and female characters of Warcraft, Lady Prestor’s story is not often told. This article will focus on Lady Katrana Prestor, also known as Onyxia, in her human form.

Advisor to The King

Lady Prestor was a Lordaeron noble and a royal councilor who was also Deathwing’s daughter. During King Varian’s disappearance, she urged Stormwind’s council to give Anduin the crown to preserve order in the Kingdom. Lady Prestor and Bolvar Fordragon served as the king’s main advisors, allowing them control over his choices. Bolvar believed in Katrana’s education, so he deferred to her wishes and decisions.

Ulterior Motives

However, Lady Prestor had ulterior motives. Her intervention made human leadership impossible, and the role of other races became negligible in her plans. She even refused to allow reinforcements to be sent to areas such as Duskwood and Redridge Mountains, despite reports of enemy activity and public knowledge of dead civilians.

True Identity

Lady Prestor’s true identity was Onyxia, the broodmother of the black dragonflight and daughter of Deathwing. She used the Drakefire Amulet to control Bolvar and possibly even the King. Her name is a homage to the form her father took when he was human, Lord Daval Prestor.

Lady Katrana Prestor manipulated the Kingdom of Stormwind while her brother manipulated the Dark Horde in its battle against Ragnaros. She is a metaphor for the real-life struggles faced by many women in positions of power and a testament to why unchecked power and corruption are dangerous.

On this International Women’s Day, we honor all women and invite you to tell us in the comments who you’d like to see featured in the future and which female has made a difference in your life and why.
